THE LAST PHOTO

I would like to invite all of my family members and friends to join me as I publish my collection of photos and write the story of my father Joseph Edward Gilkey (1914-1972) and his family.
Many of you know it's been a dream of mine to one day share all of my photo collection and our family story with you all. I have decided to try placing our story on this blog and perhaps if you are interested, you can join me in celebrating our family heritage.
One month after this photo was taken dad died on July 23, 1972. He was 58 . At the time, I was getting ready for my senior year of high school. Daddy suffered a heart attack while cutting grass. He was a good man, hard working and fun loving.
Ed loved his cigarettes and whisky, his red Volkswagen, TV, ballgames, grilling out and his pigeons. I thought I knew this man, my dad. Little did I know that it would take me so long to finally discover so much about my father. My thanks to my cousin Donna Reid for pulling out my grandmother's scrapbook and sharing it with me. That was the beginning of this project in 2005. It's 2009 now and time to share my discoveries with Ed's grandchildren. I have enjoyed preserving this history for my family to see.
